Function Report - Breakfast on the Yarra

3rd February 2002

Sunday, 3rd February 2002, a dullish sort of day; but not dull enough to dampen the spirits of 110 members and guests gathering near the Anderson Street bridge to partake in the traditional, first function of the Guild’s year.

As usual, Andrew had all the nametags prepared. The wife of one committee member told Andrew that he had failed to prepare a name tag for her, and was emotionally demanding her name tag, only to be gently advised that she was already wearing it!

Breakfast was a traditional cholesterol laden platter of bacon, fried eggs, sausages, scalloped potatoes, and bread roll. As is the custom now for many years, Grace Rago had prepared their great pikelets with jam and cream. Ralph Rago, Peg and Len Eaton helped Grace serve the pikelets.
Food, glorious food!

Fortunately, the bad cholesterol was well and truly attacked by a selection of wines from the Guild’s cellar, and fruit platters of grapes, plums and cantaloupe.

It was great to see a large number of new faces at the function. We hope that they all enjoyed themselves, and will come back for more.

Our thanks are extended to John Gillies and Jill Storey who brought along the mobile barbecues, and those who prepared and cooked the breakfast, Louis Paris, John Gillies, Peg Eaton, Grace Rago and Bob Bailey. We also thank the committee members and Graeme Hall who looked after the bar.
