About UsThe Wine Service Guild is a non-profit Incorporated Association, trading as the WineGuild, in accordance with the Associations Incorporation Act of 1981, and is registered with the Australian Tax Office: ABN 46 322 605 546 The Wine Service Guild of Australia was formed in 1958 by a group of interested winemakers, industry personnel and wine waiters. With the introduction of the BYO licence in 1976, the waiter as a professional became an anachronism, as restaurants could hire anyone over 18 to serve their wine. At the same time the Australian wine consuming public was hungering for knowledge of their favourite pastime. It was no longer enough to just buy a red or white, as people needed to know what kind of grapes were in the bottle, how long it would last, how it would mature, and what to eat with it. The 'committee of management' of the Guild is elected annually at the Guild's AGM and consists of the President, Vice President Administration, Vice President Marketing, Secretary, Treasurer, Cellarmaster, Public Officer and up to 6 general committee members.
